the treasure carrier/the forever worker
in estonian mythology a kratt was a creature one would make from old
household objects and call it to life by giving the devil 3 drops of blood in
exchange for a soul. kratt would do anything that was ordered by its maker,
often seen lugging home stolen goods from other farms. food, crops, clothes, money. it always needed work, otherwise it’d become dangerous to the owner.

here the kratt it yet soul-less, built using objects found in the factory’s
offices and storage rooms, tied to its walls, forever trapped inside of it.
air vent chest, oil can hand, engine gear heart. labour in its dna.

installed in the abandoned Kreenholm Textile Factory
that used to be most important mill of the former USSR and a place of the first
labour strike in Estonia
